Greg Giraldo passed away this past Saturday at the age of 44 of an accidental overdose. Giraldo was truly one of the great minds in stand up comedy today. Sharp as a fucking razor, extremely intelligent, and just flat out funny as hell. He apparently struggled in the past with pills and it just caught up to him. Friends found him unconcious in a hotel room after he failed to turn up for a gig. He was taken to the hospital and later died.
Greg Giraldo was no ordinary comic either. He was a Harvard Law School grad and worked for a prestigous law firm before starting his comedy career. He worked as a writer and got more attention after his appereances on Tough Crowd w/ Colin Quin . He did a lot of work with Comedy Central on various shows, had 2 of his own stand up specials, but his roasts will be what people will remember him for.
He tore shit up on the roasts. In my opinion he was part of a select few on the new generation of roasters that made it feel like the old school roasts. I always enjoyed his stand-up, his brand of humor, and just enjoyed him for the fact that he was great at what he did.
