Today in Rock History

1945
Van Morrison was born. Never was much of fan of the dude but he put out some pretty classic tunes.

1969
The Band appear at the British Isle of Wight Festival, performing a set of their own before backing up Bob Dylan.

1975
Rhinestone Cowboy was a hit for Glen Campbell. I'm pretty sure this is the song that will be playing at my funeral.

1986
Venus was a hit for Bananarama. The classic earworm originally performed by '60s Dutch rock band Shocking Blue. Bananarama put the song back on the charts 26 years after it's original release.

1987
Bad by Michael Jackson - the followup to Thriller and one of the most anticipated albums in history - is released. It tops the charts for eight weeks and yields seven hit singles.

1987
MTV premieres "Club MTV," a video age dance show hosted by "Downtown" Julie Brown. "Club MTV" is the first program to have a Monday through Friday time slot on the network.
Possibly one of the greatest and worst shows in the annals of MTV. I remember watching as a budding young man and enjoying the half naked ladies.
