Worst Gig Ever

If you've ever performed on stage you have a story about the worst gig ever. It doesn't matter if you're a musician, a comic, or do Shakespeare in the park you can recall that one time you wanted to crawl inside a black hole and die. I have one and it's the reason I no longer step foot on stage. That's for another time and if you know me well enough you've heard the story.
The video below features two of my biggest inspirations in life. The first being Kevin Matthews who made me want to do radio. The things he did on the air were amazing and it wasn't low brow material. He was the perfect example of what a great talent can do with just his mind and a microphone. If you lived in the Chicago land area in the '80s and '90s you know who Kevin Matthews was. And Jim Shorts for that matter!
Bill Hicks is the other person I've always looked up to. When I decided to try stand-up I decided I was gonna be just like him except less funny and more awful. It would be cliche to say Bill Hicks knocked down walls and set the bar for everyone else to come, but it's true. I loved his "Ya, I just said that" style and his brand of humor. He didn't really tell jokes in the true sense of a comedian. He just got on stage and told you what he thought and it happened to be really funny and 100% true.
Bill Hicks and Kevin Matthews had a close relationship that developed out of Matthews just being a fan. Anytime Hicks was in the area Matthews always had him on or put on a show for him. Hicks always seemed comfortable with Kevin too, that's why the always struck gold when they got together. I'm not real sure where this interview came from but it doesn't matter. It's Hicks talking about his worst gig ever and is brilliant.
