Halloween Horror Movie List

I guess I should of put this out a couple of days ago, ya know, so everybody could run out and pick up my recommendations. No big deal though, I'm going straight B-movie this year for my horror movie list. Chances are you'd have to do some digging to find these gems. Or just go on youtube, whatever twists your knob.

Let's start things off with an '80s classic, "American Gothic". AG is about a group of hikers who get lost and stumble upon an old cabin in the woods. They enter said cabin figuring it's abandoned only to find that it's decorated out of the 1920s and is indeed occupied......by maniacs. Imagine Deliverance meets the Manson Family and you got yourself "American Gothic".

My second choice is the 1971 cult film "Let's Scare Jessica to Death". Basically a group of friends decide to fuck with their friend Jessica and trick her into believing there are people after her, standard fare really.

Next up is a German slasher flick I stumbled across a few years ago. I've never actually seen the whole movie, just bits and pieces. "Violent Shit" is about a mad man who roams the woods and butchers who ever he finds. The plot and story aren't the real draw here, basically the movie is just an excuse to come with new and inventive ways to dismember someone. Good luck finding this flick though.

What's a horror movie list without something from the fine folks over at Troma Films. A gem from the early 80s, "Monster in the Closet", features a young Paul Walker and Fergie. Most of the movie is given away in the title, yes there is a monster and he is in fact hiding in the closet. The monster itself is worth the price of admission. Ahhhh, the '80s, before CGI came along and ruined all those great monster props.

And to close out this years list, one of my all time favorites, Peter Jackson's "Brain Dead". Before Jackson was making movies about hobbits and wizards he gave us this splatter classic from 1992. Jackson stepped up the gore meter and proved Australians were just as sick as the rest of the world. The movie starts off with an expedition in the jungle. Australian scientists have encountered a diseased rat and if the rat bites you it turns you into some kind of flesh craving psychotic zombie. You can guess what happens from here, the rat makes its way onto some luggage, hitches a ride back to Australia and chaos ensues. The best part about this movie though is the total over the top blood and guts. Peter Jackson pulls no punches when it come to the death scenes in this flick.
