This new series on A&E just might be my new favortite show! I'm by no means a comic book nerd but I can definetly be classified as a nerd when it comes to things like music or horror movies. Point being don't let the title of the show turn you away. Comic Book Men takes place in Red Bank, NJ at the original Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash, your basic comic book store. The shop is run by View Askew alum and life long comic nerd Walt Flannigan, who's appeared in all of Kevin Smith's movies. You might remember him as the egg man from Clerks. Alongside of him are fellow comic book nerds Ming Chen and Michael Zapcic. Of course every good comic book store needs the guy who's always there but doesn't work there and that's where Bryan Johnson comes in. Johnson was also the director of the cult film Vulgar.
The show itself is not real complicated, it's four guys sitting around a comic store. I'd describe it as a D&D circle mixed with one of those auction/picker shows and a podcast sprinkled on top. Customers come in to get rid of old comics or collectibles and during that time we get to see the true characters of the employess come out or just make fun of Ming the whole time. All four of these guys bring something to the table and are entertaining in their own way. Kevin Smith makes an appearance in each episode too. During the show we see scenes of the guys recording their podcast with Smith who acts as the ringleader and basically just listens to all the stories about the store from that episode.
It's an hour long and airs on A&E Sunday nights. Below is a clip of the first episode..........
