Cool shit like this never happens to me and based on my past luck I would say it won't happen in the future either. You hear stories like this all the time about how someone finds a priceless piece of art in a garage sale or in their grandma's attic. This time the painting was found in a Columbus, Ohio thrift store.
Zach Bodish was snooping around the local store when he came across the painting and decided to buy it because it looked nice. It wasn't until he brought it home when he started noticing "things" about the painting. Bodish was curious about a red signature in the corner that he thought was odd for a reproduction. After some research he found out that he in fact owned an original print Picasso. The print had other signs that it was more than just a reproduction. Written in pencil was an edition number and “original print, signed proof” written in French on the poster. Bodish’s print turned out to be a linocut which means Picasso himself carved a design into a linoleum block. The block was inked and pressed into paper. Estimators price the work at around $6,000 stating that Picasso prints are more common than his paintings. The work is believed to be a painting Picasso did for Easter in 1958 to put on display in southern France. Bodish says he'd like to keep it but money is tight and will most likely sell it if the price is right. Considering he bought for 14 bucks I'd say he made out just fine.
CBS Cleveland has the story
