Mark Paul Gosselaar finally realized what the rest of have known for a few decades, Saved By the Bell wasn't a very good show. Sure, a generation of kids grew up watching it each Saturday morning for years and years but it does fall into the category of "It's so bad it's good". I've seen every episode ever made a thousand times over and some of the acting and story lines still make me cringe. I always thought to myself, "What the fuck is wrong with these kids? Why are these douche bags considered cool?"
I won't get into the thoughts I had about Kelly Kapowski. That's another post all together.
Turns out ol' Zach Morris wasn't a real big fan of the show either. Which is funny considering that's the one thing he'll always be remembered for.
Gosselaar recently told Yahoo! News that he was never really a big fan of the Bayside Gang,
“It’s not a great show. The writing is kind of hokey… it’s very much a piece of that time. It taught me to have a strong work ethic, and to take it very seriously. Even though we had fun, the one thing the producers instilled in us is that this is a business. You can still have all your fun, but you have to do your job, and then you can reap all the benefits at the end.”
Gosselaar, now 38, is starting the second season of his new show on TNT, "Franklin & Bash" so I'm guessing he's just trying to move past his Saved By the Bell days and concentrate more on his new series. Divorced with two kids Gosselaar finds himself laughing at the kids shows of today,
“When my kids watch Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, some of these shows and the topics they bring up… I don’t know if I’m getting old, but I’m like, wow. They’re talking about dating and kissing and this and that… and they’re young! But I guess we were doing the same thing.”
