Potato Chips of the Future
Lay's has been running a contest for the past few months allowing their customers to choose a new flavor of chips. The best part is their looking for something exotic, a break from the normal bland chip flavors. Sour Cream and Onion is played out and so is BBQ and regular flavor so Lay's wanted us the consumer to come up with the next big taste in potato chips. Well, worry no more because the Chinese have beat us all to the punch with their new Pepsi Chicken flavored Lay's chips. Yes, you heard me right.
People over in China will be the guinea pigs for the new flavor consisting of a mix between Pepsi cola and regular chicken flavor. This may seem like an odd combination but the Chinese love their soda and regularly use it as a marinade for their meat. Not to mention that Pepsi and Lay's are owned by the same company, PepsiCo. So it's not too much of a stretch. Early reports suggest that the new flavor is a hit with the Chinese and it seems to be growing in popularity. One food critic described the taste as, "Similar to barbecue with a sugary aftertaste". Personally, that doesn't sound all that great but you never know until you try it. PepsiCo has been trying to get it's foot in the door over in China, in 2010 the company invested $2.5 billion trying to get the brand off the ground over there. No word on whether or not we'll get to taste the "Pepsi Chicken" chips over here in the states. Fat fingers crossed!
