Sad news hit the music world this weekend when the passing of the Deftones bassist and founding member was announced. Chi Cheng passed away at the age of 42 from injuries suffered in a 2008 car accident. Cheng was traveling with his sister when his car was struck head on sending him crashing through the windshield and leaving him in a comma. Tribute was paid all over the world from artists and bands alike singing the praise of Cheng and the work he did with the Deftones. The bands guitarist, Stephen Carpenter, released a statement via the bands website on behalf of the band,
"There are so many things I can say, and yet at this moment, none of it matters or compares to the loss everyone feels. There will be a hole in our lives where Chi once was. But that will be filled everyday with all of our love and memories we all have in our heart. He will always be here because of love. It's time we all give our love and best, and do our best to love. Especially ourselves, Chi would want that for everyone. All our healing will begin with love. I love you Chi."
Cheng played on 5 albums with the band including his last, 2006's Saturday Night Wrist. He is survived by his wife Coleen and their son.
