As I Lay Dying broke onto the scene back in 2000 and have without a doubt left their mark on the metal scene. Unfortunately, thanks to their lead singer Tim Lambesis they'll be known for much more than their music. Turns out Lambesis is more than a frontman for a major metal band, he's also the guy who tried to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife. Little did Lambesis know though that the guy he hired turned out to be an undercover detective at the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Several law enforcement agencies had been investigating the "murder for hire" plot including the San Diego Fugitive Task Force and the Sheriff's Special Investigation Unit. Lambesis was arrested on May 7th a retail store in Oceanside, CA and police say he was taken in without incident. At this point not a lot of details have been given as to why Lambesis wanted his estranged wife dead but signs are pointing to a messy divorce. His wife Meggan filed of 'dissolution of marriage' back in September and I guess that didn't sit well with him. As I Lay Dying just returned to the US after a short tour in Asia and it looks like the band will be putting a halt to any future plans. As I Lay Dying is scheduled to set out in June on a lengthy domestic tour in support of their sixth studio album, Awakened. The band is to be joined by metalcore heavyweights Killswitch Engage along with Miss May I and Affiance. As of right now the evidence against Lambesis looks to be stacked against him. I imagine it's pretty tough to talk your out of hiring an undercover detective to kill your wife. I briefly met Tim and the band a few years back and I have to say he seemed like a nice enough guy but then again it sounds like he may have a few demons he needs to deal with.
