MTV Used To Be Cool
It's been said a million times but back in the day MTV used to be a really cool source of new music and a great way to see some of your favorite artists/bands. I won't get into what it's turned in to, we all know about that steaming pile of shit. One of the great shows MTV used to run was 120 Minutes, a show all about "alternative" music and featured mostly bands outside of the Top 40 pop music world. Matt Pinfield was the host most of the time but every once in awhile they would have a celebrity host like on February 2, 1994 when Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth took over the show. His guest that day was a 23 year old kid from California by the name of Beck who there to promote his new smash hit "Loser". After what has to be one of the weirdest interviews of all time Thurston and Beck were joined by Mike D from the Beastie Boys for an impromptu jam session. What happened next is one of the many things that made 120 Minutes a great show and a great example of what MTV use to be.
